Man ID'd After Fatal Ejection During Rollover Crash On PA 283: Coroner

A 29-year-old man has been identified following a fatal rollover crash, authorities told Daily Voice on Wednesday, Feb. 21.

Matthew Carabello of the 2400 block of Franklin Drive in East Petersburg died an accidental death caused by multiple traumatic injuries, Lancaster County Chief Deputy Coroner Eric Bieber told us. 

The crash happened on PA 283 westbound at 1:24 a.m. on Feb. 21, according to the Manheim Township Police. Carabello was driving a 1996 Ford Explorer when he "drove off the roadway and returned onto the travel lane before rolling and sliding" — ejecting him from the vehicle, the police stated in the release. 

He had been coming onto PA 283 from Fruitville Pike near Manheim Pike, numerous authorities told us. 

He was taken to Penn Medicine Lancaster General Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 2:21 a.m., according to Bieber. 

Manheim Township Police were assisted on the scene by members of the Lancaster County Crash Investigation Unit.

The area opened to traffic at 6:53 a.m. 

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
